The Reason I pursue my goals in music: My Successful Person Interview

With all the work, meetings and family to attend to Darryl Brown still took the time out to have a phone interview with me. I wanted to have a video interview, spark a couple extra points from my professor. I had it planned perfect. I’d have my little brother be the cameraman, using his flip that I got him for Christmas and we would head over to Brown’s studio and do the interview that way. But Mr. Brown was busy as usual so the next best thing is to get the interview done as soon as possible so that I can have it posted to my blog on time.

During the interview I ask Brown a series of question relating to how he sees me and if he think I’d still be pursuing music after all these years. He was proud to see that I took my education just as serious as my career choice. He always said that I was his best student. We first met at my H.S. Like most kids in H.S I was just going to school just to be going to school. I didn’t really have a sense back then what I wanted to do with my life. I went through my career changes early. I went from wanting to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (TMNT) to a fireman to a football player. Yes, I serious wanted to be a TMNT. My chest structure was the reason I didn’t pursue football and a fire incident changed my mind completely about being a fireman.

I did a little bit of songwriting and rappin in H.S but that was only to satisfy certain friends to gain popularity. There was a rumor around saying that there was an after school program starting. My friends and I didn’t do much after school so we decide why not join. Music Production was all they had to say to us. And that’s where Darryl Brown comes to play. I told Brown, he’s the reason I choose to chase after this music career. I did most of the setups and breakdowns for the sessions at the after school program. He told me that he knew I would take advantage of audio engineering because I was always the first to show up and the last to leave. Even when the program died out and was so popular as it was when it first started

These days you can still find Darryl Brown surrounded by three different keyboards a DAW station and ready to work. Adding more awards to his collection. He still plays for his church and whenever he needs me I am always ready to write more songs for him.

  1. I think teachers have a great impact on what we turn out to be. It can be positive and negative. Usually we are experiencing both.
I think it's great that you are still so close to your teacher. And i am pretty sure it makes him happy to see how successful you are.
There is one teacher in my life that I remember, admire and still keep in touch with.
